Welcome to the Department of Pharmacology. Our research teams and faculty study the mechanisms of disease, develop and test novel drug therapies and seek to understand and prevent drug interactions. We also educate and train medical students, graduate students, residents and fellows in the rich and complex field of pharmacology.

Pharmacology impacts the entire spectrum of health care and has applications in both inpatient and outpatient settings. At SIU Medicine, our pharmacologists bridge the gap between science and medicine by providing collaborative, evidence-based care for patients throughout central and southern Illinois.

Our ongoing research activities involve the investigation of drugs as they apply to areas of interest like cancer biology, toxicology, hearing loss and neuroscience.
