Welcome to the Department of Surgery at SIU Medicine. We provide surgical services in multiple locations throughout central and southern Illinois and have helped thousands of patients manage acute and chronic health conditions through advanced surgical techniques and technologies. Our department is home to more than 140 award-winning faculty and staff members. In addition to providing patient care and conducting life-changing research, our faculty also educate the next generation of compassionate, skilled surgeons.

Institute for Plastic Surgery

 Located in Springfield, Illinois, our team of plastic surgeons maintains the highest standard of care for our patients. The Institute for Plastic Surgery provides surgical treatment and management of a variety of health conditions, including burns, varicose veins, lymphedema, cleft lip and cleft palate and cancers of the skin, breast, tongue, throat and mouth.

We offer both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery to help restore and improve a person's appearance, function, comfort and confidence. With continuing education opportunities, our surgeons remain up-to-date on the latest innovations in plastic surgery and utilize state-of-the-art technologies and techniques to promote optimized patient outcomes.

When neurosurgeon Dr. Breck Jones of SIU Medicine performed a brain biopsy on a local patient earlier this month at Springfield Memorial Hospital, he had a new assistant helping guide him to the location of the suspected tumor – a robot.
